Sphere Consulting participates in midVenturesLAUNCH’s 2010 Hackathon

Sphere Consulting has recently participated in a hackathon. If you aren’t familiar with this word, as I was, don’t worry, I will explain what it is.

Hackathon is an event when programmers meet to do collaborative computer programming. Usually in a limited amount of time, say 36-48 hours, programmers have to come up with a software product.

It was fun to hang out with other developers and by the end of the event new ideas just started popping out of my head. Thanks to the host, Peter Morano, the atmosphere was very friendly and we felt like home.

Curious on how our second Ruby meetup went on?

Our second meetup in St.Petersburg went great and gathered 50 Ruby developers. What was surprising for me is that some people traveled from Moscow, Omsk, Novgorod and Karelia to attend the meetup. May be next time we can expect some international guests? Who knows :)

Some of the topics were really interesting, just to name a few “Metaprogramming in Ruby”, “What’s new in Ruby 1.9.2″, “Ruby jobs and doing business in South East Asia” and how to develop applications for Android and iPhone and integrate them with Rails.

How to run a Rails meetup in your city

Last week we hosted our first Rails meetup in St.Petersburg, Russia. It was an interesting experience and what’s more important people loved it. Over 20 Rails developers showed up (apart from a dozen of Sphere’s developers who were there as well). We had 6 presentations including two from people who came over.
